BUILD MASTER
Rational Exponent is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Build Master to join our innovative engineering team. This role combines traditional build engineering with a strong focus on developer experience. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing and maintaining our continuous integration and delivery infrastructure, while also ensuring our local development environments are efficient, consistent and reliable across the engineering organization.

GitHub Actions, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, Helm Charts, Git, AWS (EKS, Lambda, S3, CodeBuild, CodePipeline), Python, Bash, PowerShell, Gradle, Maven, npm, pnpm.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design, implement, and maintain robust CI/CD pipelines that support our engineering workflows
- Optimize build and test processes to reduce cycle times and improve feedback loops
- Implement quality gates and enforce standards across the build process
- Troubleshoot and resolve build failures proactively
- Collaborate with engineering teams to continuously improve build reliability
- Design, implement, and maintain consistent development environments across the team
- Reduce environment setup time for new team members with automated provisioning
- Ensure parity between local, testing, and production environments
- Create and maintain comprehensive developer onboarding documentation
- Implement solutions for common local development challenges
- Drive initiatives to improve local development ergonomics and efficiency
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
- 5+ years of experience in build engineering, DevOps, or similar roles
- Expert knowledge of CI/CD tools and practices
- Strong scripting and automation skills (Bash, Python, PowerShell)
- Proficiency with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Experience with infrastructure as code (Terraform, CloudFormation, Helm)
- Deep understanding of version control systems and workflows (Git)
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS - preferred, GCP, Azure)
- Knowledge of build systems and package management
- Proven track record of implementing scalable build and deployment solutions
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
- Experience supporting development teams and optimizing workflows
- Background in software development desirable
- Familiarity with security best practices in build and deployment
